Understanding the User
Most L.A. residents believe that safety is the biggest problem with Metro trains. According to the USC Dornsife LABarometer survey, 84% of residents consider riding Metro trains to be currently unsafe.
To better understand this statistic and how it applies to young adults, particularly college students, I conducted a survey to take a deeper look at the user's mental model and what they would want to see improved/added to their experience with public transportation in LA.
Key Findings
43% of users emphasize SAFETY as a CONCERN when riding the metro, and 100% of respondents reported feeling SAFER when riding WITH FRIENDS.
71% of users mention community & friend activity when noting what they look for in a social app
57.2% of users regularly use a digital wallet for card payments

Supplementary Graphics

Inspired by Generation Wild's Wonderfull World campaign, as well as a trend I've seen that defines a product/service by drawing connections to something that feels completely juxtaposed, I created a billboard with compelling and thought provoking visuals that encourages the audience to ponder their choices in transportation, presumably while stuck in the LA traffic.

At the core of these concepts is my original typeface, Tesselate, as well as a suite of original transportation cards that encourage usage by drawing connections to iconic landscapes that users undoubtedly feel connected to as residents.
